Mohammed Adjei Sowah

Mohammed Adjei Sowah ¡s a social entrepreneur by vocation and expert in local economic development. He is a transformational and progressive leader who has led state and non-state agencies through challenging times to a steady path. He has 23 years’ experience in project management and urban development with specific areas of accomplishment ¡n sanitation/waste management, climate change, urban mobility, local and urban governance.

Adjel Sowah was the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra (Mayor of Accra) from March 2017 to October 2021.

Prior to his appointment as Mayor, Adjei Sowah was the Founder & Executive Director of the Social Enterprise Agenda – an organization that seeks to apply business models in tackling social challenges to ensure sustainable solutions. He is also the Founder of MAS Investments Ltd, a company which provides a wide range of business management solutions, investments, and property management services.

Adjei Sowah was once the Program Director for Center for Development Partnerships, a national non-governmental organization (NGO) with the primary aim of working In low-income communities by empowering vulnerable groups and women through local economic development.

Presently, Adjei Sowah’s career spans from the public sector to the private sector playing leadership roles through the provision of direct consulting services. He is the Policy and Technical Advisor to the Korle Klotey Municipal.

Assembly and Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly on Waste Management, Climate Change and Local Economic Development by building the capacities of these municipalitIes to mainstream these themes into their Medium-Term Development Plans and further provide guidance in the implementation of their actionable programs. Adjei Sowah is also consulting for Complete Property Solutions with roles involving driving a hustle free property ownership in the urban and pen-urban areas for the middle class through a model that guarantee affordability, litigation free and serviced communfty. Additionally, through MAS Investments Ltd, Adjei Sowah is providing rental retail outlets for SMES In highly commercialized locations as well as brokerage service for mobilizing affordable funding for SMEs.

Adjei Sowah holds MSc in Local Economic Development from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He also holds MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He has successfully completed a one-year professional program in “Bloornberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative” from the Harvard University. Prior to that, he pursued an undergraduate course at the University of Ghana where he successfully obtained BSc in Public Administration.
